The Boy Who Planted Dreams

The Story of a Boy Who Planted Hope and Grew a Forest

A Strange Habit  with a deep meaning

In a small village surrounded by hills and silence, lived a boy named Ayan. Unlike other kids his age who were busy with games and gossip, Adan had a strange habit — he planted trees. Not just in his backyard, but everywhere he could find soil. The village people often laughed at him.

“Why are you wasting time?” old men would say.

“Trees don’t give food or money!” others mocked.

But Asan didn’t stop. Every day after school, with a small bag of seeds slung over his shoulder, he would walk through the dusty paths, look for empty land, dig small holes with his hands, and plant a seed. Sometimes he watered them. Sometimes he just prayed that rain would come.

You see, Adan had a secret. His father used to tell him stories about trees. He said that trees were like people   they had roots, they needed love, and they gave back more than they received. But when Ayan was 10, his father died in a storm that destroyed half the village. After that, everything changed.

Their small house became quieter. His mother worked in the fields to earn something, and Adan spent most of his time alone. But he remembered the stories. He remembered how his father would say, “If you want to live forever, plant something that will live longer than you.”

So that's what Adam did

The first year, only a few trees grew. Many died due to drought. The second year, a few more survived. He never gave up. He learned how to choose better soil. He began collecting rainwater in old cans. He even gave names to his plants calling them his “green brothers.”

Years passed. Adan grew into a teenager, quiet and thoughtful. By now, his little garden of trees had become a small forest on the edge of the village. Birds started returning. The wind felt cooler in that area. Children began playing under the shade of his trees. Elders came there to rest.

One day, a group of government officials visited the village. They were planning to build a road. When they saw Adan’s green space, they were amazed.

“Who did this?” one asked.

The villagers pointed at Adan, who stood shyly at the back. The officials took photos, asked him questions, and wrote down notes. A month later, Adan received a letter  he was awarded a national prize for environmental service. His photo appeared in newspapers. Interviews followed. People from other villages came to see the “forest boy.”

But Adam didn't care about the fame he only smiled when someone mentioned his trees

“Why do you do this?” a reporter once asked him.

Adan replied, “Because my father planted stories in my mind. I plant trees in the world.”

That one sentence became famous. Schools started teaching his story. A non-profit group helped him start a small nursery where kids could learn to grow plants. He called it Dream Seedlings.

By the time Adan turned 25, he had planted over 10,000 trees. The village that once laughed at him now celebrated him every year on “Green Day”. He wasn’t rich with money, but he was rich with something deeper  purpose.

Lessons from Adam’s Story:

1. Start small:

Adam didn’t begin with thousands of trees. He began with one. In life, every dream begins with one small step.

2. Ignore the noise:

People will always have opinions. If Adan had listened to the mockery, the forest would never have existed.

3. Purpose over popularity:

He wasn’t looking for attention. His goal was personal and pure  to honor his father and help the earth.

4. Give more than you take:

Trees give oxygen, shade, shelter, and beauty  all without asking. Adan became like them — a quiet giver.

5. Legacy matters:

You don't have to be old to a legacy even a young person can plant something that  outlive them

Your Turn: Plant Your Dream

You might not be planting trees like Adan, but everyone has a “seed” to plant. Maybe yours is writing. Maybe it’s helping others. Maybe it’s teaching, building, creating, or healing. Whatever it is, start today. Water it with effort. Protect it from negativity. And one day, it will grow into something beautiful.

Don’t wait for the perfect time. Adan didn’t. He planted during storms, droughts, and in lonely moments. But he never stopped.

Remember his words:

“Because my father planted stories in my mind. I plant trees in the world.”

What will you plant
